ABOUT

Nicky MacKenzie has a talent for unearthing the thoughts people rarely say out loud. Living in the spaces between comfort and chaos and finding moments perhaps unnoticed, the Salt Spring Island artist blends confessional lyricism with sleek pop sensibilities, creating music that feels deeply personal while resonating on a broader scale. Following in the stylistic footsteps of artists like Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, and Joss Stone, her evocative voice wrapped in vibrant soundscapes always leaves listeners introspective and spellbound.

MacKenzie first gained national recognition as a winner of the Canadian Songwriting Challenge and a standout contestant on The Launch, establishing early momentum within Canada’s pop landscape. Since then, she has focused on refining her artistic identity through high-level collaborations, recording in Los Angeles with producers Chris Soper and Jesse Singer (LIKEMINDS), and working alongside Jasper Kuijper, Herag Sanbalian, and JUNO-nominated producer Gus van Go (The Beaches, Metric, Arkells). These collaborations have shaped a confident young artist whose pop-forward sound balances emotional depth with clarity and commercial appeal.

Her forthcoming EP, Morals, arrives May 20, 2026. Developed over several years, the project reflects both personal evolution and artistic maturity, with many songs originating from early voice memo ideas and unfinished concepts revisited later in life. “It’s kind of a cool marriage between my younger self and my present self,” says MacKenzie. “Taking old experiences and sprinkling them with the learned lessons and flavours of my current life.”

Alongside her recorded output, MacKenzie has built strong streaming momentum, amassing over 2 million streams across platforms, including more than 1.3 million on Spotify and over 930,000 views on YouTube. With Morals, she enters a defining new chapter — positioning herself as one of Canada’s most compelling emerging voices in contemporary pop.
