ABOUT
Hailing from Salt Spring Island on Canada’s west coast, Nicky MacKenzie is a modern pop artist known for emotionally incisive songwriting, powerful vocals, and polished contemporary production. Her music blends confessional lyricism with sleek pop sensibilities, creating songs that feel intimate while resonating on a wider scale.
MacKenzie first gained national recognition as a winner of the Canadian Songwriting Challenge and a standout contestant on The Launch, establishing early momentum within Canada’s pop landscape. Since then, she has focused on refining her artistic identity through high-level collaborations, traveling to Los Angeles to record with producers Chris Soper and Jesse Singer (LIKEMINDS), while also working with Jasper Kuijper, Herag Sanbalian, and Juno-nominated producer Gus van Go. These collaborations have shaped a confident, pop-forward sound that balances emotional depth with clarity and commercial appeal.
Nicky’s upcoming single, “Grown” is a full-circle moment. Originally written when she was 18 years old, the song captures the raw emotion and unfiltered honesty of adolescence. Now revisiting it in her 20s, Nicky has given the track the space and perspective it needed to fully come to life, preserving its innocence while layering in a new depth and maturity. Produced in collaboration with her manager Stephen Franke, with co-production by Jonathan Anderson and mastering by Ryan Morey, “Grown” showcases a more restrained and intimate side of Nicky’s artistry. The slower-paced arrangement allows her vocal performance to take centre stage, highlighting her emotional range and evolution as a songwriter. The result is a refined yet heartfelt release that bridges who she was with who she is becoming, a powerful statement of growth, self-awareness, and artistic confidence.
Alongside her recorded output, MacKenzie has built a reputation as a compelling live performer, with recent appearances at major Canadian festivals including Phillips Backyard and Rifflandia in Victoria, BC. With over 2 million total streams across platforms—including 1.3 million on Spotify and 930,000 on YouTube—and with new music on the way, Nicky is entering a key growth phase, positioning herself as one of Canada’s most promising emerging voices in contemporary pop.
